Hickory Championship

Sunday 1st March saw the Club holding the Annual Hickory Championship played over 9 holes with hickory clubs. Ross Noon is seen being presented with the trophy by our new Captain Gordon Henderson. It was a tight competition as Ross posted a 36 the same as Alan Tweedie, but Ross was the victor on countback. Great shooting by both and well done to all those that took part.

A Special competition

The Committee and Competition Secretary thought it was a good idea to have a trophy and competition / championship for our older members. A Veteran Championship was put in place, over 70 years old. The competition took place on Saturday 25th October over 9 holes. A great turnout of 10 members played in bright but very windy and cool conditions. The winning score with a net 32 was Mike McGovern, seen here with our Chairman Brian Weddell, a great score in those conditions, but a 33 and two 34s shows how tight a comp we had.

100th playing of The Musselburgh Amateur

The Musselburgh Amateur Competition was played over Friday 5th September for Seniors and Juniors, and Saturday 6th for the main competition over our beloved course. The Committee of the competition realising the significance of it being the 100th playing agreed that it should be at our course to host it. Entrants must either be a member of the 3 Musselburgh Courses, a resident of Musselburgh or employed in Musselburgh. With a large entry it was pleasing that the overall winner was one of our own, Ross Noon. Ross is seen being presented by councillor Andy Forrest, who is a Committee member. Not only was it a good round to win, Ross equalled the course record of 65, with the second place carding a 66, great shooting guys.

Each entrant received a medal because of the occasion.

The handicap winner was also a MOCGC member and one of our youngest members, Greig McVean. His net score of 65 giving him the trophy by one shot.

The club nearly made it 3 out of 3 but in the Seniors David Hill from Royal Musselburgh narrowly beat our Eddie Whoriskey by one shot

A huge round of thanks have to go to the organising committee of which Alan Tweedie was our representative. All those that volunteered over the two days, our Chef John McFeely for feeding everyone etc.

Charity Day at MOCGC

The wee club with a big heart, once again delivered when we had our Charity Day on 10th August. The winner of the competition was our Secretary, Mike McVean but the big winner was our chosen charity.  Clark’s Concert Party formerly St. Ninian’s Junior Concert Party in memory of Robert Clark. Once again we are supporting a local Musselburgh organisation and here you can see our Captain Billy Alexander with a group of their members receiving a cheque for £1500. It never fails to amaze us how our wee club digs deep on these days, donating raffle prizes, buying raffle tickets etc.

Lewisville Invitational Open

Joe Scott seen here being presented with the Rosebowl by our Club Secretary Mike McVean. Joe has been a member since he was a junior, and in his thank you speech, stated this was his first major Trophy. A net 66 (2 under) was a great score as the wind was blowing rather hard. It was great to see a number of visitors playing in the Open, but both major prizes went to MOCGC members.

With Justin Maver taking the scratch prize.
